Will She Kill Her Sister?

A friend called me yesterday nearly hysterical. When she dropped the girls off at school she overheard the 11 year old telling the nine year old not to worry, that she would kill her when she got home. When my friend got back home, she decided to search the bedroom of the 11 year old. That is when my friend really got upset. You see, she found a note, written by the 11 year old, to her therapist apologizing for killing her little sister.

My friend had already been in touch with her daughter’s therapist, explained the note, and faxed a copy to her. The therapist had agreed meet them at the house right after school. She was equally concerned, as she had been providing wrap-around services for several months.

Then my friend read me the note. I almost started to laugh, but held it back because my friend was so upset. Then, I asked her if she had ever heard that version of the Barney song. No, she didn’t have a clue about the song and apparently, the therapist had never heard that version of Barney either.

I told her to hold on a minute and I would have one of my children sing it to her. My children had not heard our conversation, nor had they heard her read the letter to me. So, Buck ended up being the child to sing the song for her. I think my children learned the gruesome tune at a summer camp. I don’t normally let them sing it or teach it to others.

I think she was a little relieved, but not completely, because her daughter had replaced the word Barney in the song for her little sister’s name. However, at least she now knew where her daughter had gotten the gruesome idea of barbequing her sister’s head and flushing her body down the potty. You sing it to the theme of Joy to the World.

Oh where is her body, we flushed it down the potty..LOL I remember that one!

Glad to hear that it was more of a false alarm than anything else! Great story!

If your friend felt the threat was real, song or not, it may not be a false alarm. And the letter was written as an apology. As a mom whose child DID try to kill me as well as a sibling, I doubt your friend is laughing. Granted, the details might be funny but it's where the child's mind is at that matters.

Certainly kids can be violent, but usually you kind of know when your child is blustering and when it seems quite different. I have one who could be violent, his tell was putting down anything that could help him do damage, he would only launch with his hands and his teeth. So long as he held something, we were safe.

It does sound like the note was a bit outlandish and high drama. My experience is that when kids are serious, they are blunt, scary, and not creative. John

You might want to rethink the picture on this one. My little boy (age 11 years) is beginning to want to read this site. We already must closely monitor his online activity, it would be nice to not have to worry about this one. Just a thought.

Respectfully,

Amy
