Gracie

Before we adopted Gracie my mom worked at my school as the Director of Development three days a week. After we brought Gracie home from China my mother continued to work in the development office only 10 hours a week but from home. On occasion she will have to go into her office at school and work. She will usually have my Maw-Maw look after Gracie when she does come to school to work. However, one day last week my mom had to go to a development meeting and my Maw-Maw was unable to keep Gracie at home. My mother ended up taking Gracie to my school for her meeting. After my mother’s meeting was over my mom packed up all the toys, snacks, diapers, portable DVD player and DVD’s she brought in to entertain Gracie while she was meeting. My mom’s hands were full when she left the meeting and was unable to hold Gracie by the hand when they walked out of her office into the hallway. Big mistake!!!

The development office is located on the same hall as most of my classes and I was sitting on the front row of my history class when Gracie spotted me. So as you can imagine Gracie made a beeline straight toward me into my silent, history class. My mom tried to stop her but it was no use. She ran right up to my desk with a slobbery, green apple in one hand yelling “Sissy”. She plopped the slobbery apple on the desk of the guy that was sitting next to me and walked over to me to get a big hug. Needless to say the class broke out into laughter.

My mother came running into the classroom to get Gracie and her slobbery, green apple when my history teacher came in several steps behind my mother to find her class in laughter. Fortunately my history teacher loves a good laugh and smiled when she saw what was so funny in her class during her absences. I gave Gracie a big hug and my mother took Gracie’s hand as she led her out the door.

I know a lot of my friends would have been embarrassed if their little sister or brother had interrupted their class but I was happy my little sister loves me so much that she wanted a hug from her big sissy. Besides it was well worth seeing the grossed out and shocked look on the guy that was sitting beside me when he saw the slobbery apple on his desk. It could not have happened to a more deserving person. Just kidding!
