This is Grace and Caroline. They live in a very humble setting in Kenya, where they are blessed to go to school thanks to the efforts of a charitable organization called
Angel Covers.
I have a special place in my heart for Grace because she is profoundly deaf just like my son. She also is my adopted daughter in the heart even though she will never be our daughter in our home. Instead, we sponsor her education for a mere $20.00/month and also have had the opportunity to send packages and gifts to brighten her day and her living situation.
In Kenya, public education is free, but many parents cannot afford to buy school supplies for their children, so their child ends up having to stay home. Since Grace is deaf, she has the added burden of not being able to attend a public school, but rather a private school for the deaf...and private schools are unfortunately not free. No money, no education. Without sponsor money, Humble Hearts school could not begin to operate on the level that it does.
If you have children who suffer a case of the
"gimmies", then sponsoring a child might be a good learning experience for them. It is very humbling for my children to see Grace's living conditions in photos.
A cot in a corrugated tin shack--with no heat or air conditioning--that leaks when it rains hopefully causes my children to appreciate more of what they have. Knowing that she wears the same school uniform day after day helps them to realize how blessed they are when it comes to material goods.
In this photo, we had paid for her to have a new dress other than her school uniform, and I think from the expression on her face, she felt very pretty in it. I know how good I feel when I wear something new and know I look good in it. I can only imagine how she felt to have something bright and new to wear.
Grace has sent us letters, and today I received one that told me her mother has a new baby who cries alot. I love seeing her personality come through in her letters and I love knowing that we are making an impact--albeit a small one--on her life.
If you would like to make a difference in the life of a child, Angel Covers is always looking for more sponsors for the children whom they support. All of those who work for Angel Covers volunteer their time, so 100% of your donation will go to your sponsored child.
I will be posting more this week about Angel Covers so you can learn more about this amazing organization and how they help the orphans of the world.
