Snowed in Siblings on a Sunday

What does your family do when you are snowed in and can’t go anywhere? I am sure that the county has their plow and salt trucks out in force, but they haven’t made it out to the country roads yet. My mother lives within the city limits and they haven’t even plowed her street yet. Apparently, with all of the blowing and drifting going on, the county is having trouble keeping the main roads clear. This is only the second Sunday that I can remember our church canceling all services due to inclement weather. I didn’t even attempt to go anywhere today in my 15 passenger van, they aren’t designed for plowing through snowdrifts, you know.

After the children got over their initial shock of not going to church, they got busy having fun. They bundled up and headed outside to explore the depth and packing quality of the snow. Our farm is relatively flat, making it great for farming but poor for sledding.

Super Dad went in to work at 7am and wasn’t expected home until after 7pm so I sent the oldest two boys out to plow the driveway. They balked at the idea, pleaded ignorance about machinery operation, but eventually headed out. Super Dad always uses the tractor loader to create a giant mound of snow that the children can sled down and tunnel through so that is what the boys did.

The children all did a great job of taking turns playing video games. Surprisingly, I didn’t hear any arguments about taking turns. Some played board games when it wasn’t their turn and others made crafts. Lane was studying most of the day for his final exam in physiology tomorrow. Apparently, his grade is riding the fence between an A and a B, so he’s hoping to get an A on the final. Actually, he’s hoping for a school closing tomorrow at the college.

They decided to finish the evening off by swimming in the hot tub. We don’t have an enclosure for the hot tub so they used snow boots to travel the three feet to get in, which is a little amusing.
