Snow day, snow day, snow day! Oh what joy! Those are the two most beloved words in the wintertime for many students because in our region it generally means… NO SCHOOL!!!!!! Yes! My area finally had its first snow day. Because of the hazardous road conditions our most wonderful administrator’s cancelled school for the day. Gracie being as curious as she is, looked out the window with a big smile and said “‘NOOOOOW” (snow)! She was so excited to see the snow and when I asked her if she wanted to go out and play in it she said yes right away.
I bundled my little sister up with two pairs of socks, two pairs of pants and two shirts and then topped it all off by putting her coat on. My mother helped me put on her little, black mittens and adorable, pink snow boots and then I ran around the house looking for her new Strawberry Shortcake wool hat she received at Christmas. This being her first snow I am sure she did not understand why she had so many layers of clothes on. Needless to say she was still excited to go outside and play in the “white stuff.” Finally we were prepared and ready to head out to bear the elements!
The snow accumulations were not at all what the meteorologists were expecting and we received only about an inch. I put Gracie on our plastic sled and it was so much fun to see the joy on my little sister’s face when I pulled her across the yard in the snow and then down a small hill. We did this over and over and over again until we started to wear the grass through the snow. I taught her how to make a snowball and we had a snowball fight. I would “run away” from her and she would chase me with the frozen ammunition. After about an hour of playing I could tell she was starting to get cold because her cute little cheeks and pug nose were getting pretty red.
Too bad the snow melted all away a few hours later but Gracie and I had a blast that wonderful snow day. We both look forward to seeing more snow sometime soon so we can play again in our winter wonderland. Not to mention the added bonus of school cancellations!
