Mommy, Gracie, and Kelsey at Beach-Spring '06

My dad was away a few weeks ago on a business trip to Indiana and I asked my mom if Gracie and I could have a slumber party in her room. I didn’t have school the next day so I knew the three of us could stay up a little later than usual. My mom said it would be fine.

As the evening’s activities began, the three of us laughed together, played together, and Gracie’s favorite part, tickled each other silly. When it came time for us to get ready for bed I helped brush Gracie’s teeth as I sung the “Toothbrush Tango” song from Blue’s Clues. We also did the “Bedtime Boogie” as I sang my own rendition of a 1940’s big band song and danced with Gracie. I ended the song by throwing Gracie up in the air and landing her gently on my mom’s bed as we begun to settle down for the evening. I placed Gracie in the center of my parents king size bed and helped her say her nighttime prayers.

Once the three of us snuggled comfortably in position, my mom turned off the light and told us she loved us. After the light was off and we all got silent and still for a few minutes Gracie proceeded to let out a big snort like a pig snoring! My mom and I cracked up laughing, which then caused little Gracie to start laughing hysterically. Once we all stopped laughing and calmed down, I snuggled in close to Gracie and we gently fell asleep.

Early the next morning Gracie woke up and jumped on top of me and shook me and shook me back and forth saying, “Sissy, Sissy!!! Wate tup, wate tup (wake up).” Waking up half asleep I turned over and gave Gracie a hug saying, “Good morning baby.” Gracie gave me her big, dimpled smile and proceeded to continue to pounce on me as I was still trying to pry my eyes open. Then I remembered I didn’t have to get up early for school and could have slept in, but how often do big sisters get pounced on by their little sister and actually enjoy it? Mom then rolled over and saw Gracie spread out on top of me and smiled at us. She then removed Gracie and gently told me to go back to sleep. I turned over and snuggled back into my mom’s comfy bed and thought to myself, Kelsey, you are one blessed big sister!
