Continued from Our second day in Wuhan part 2
After Pizza Hut which was a nice break from the Chinese food that Alyssa won't eat, we headed out for some shopping. I had hoped to hit some market type streets where we could bargain for good prices, but instead our guide took us to shops that were no different than what I could find in America. We went in a Jeans West store and bought some scarves and hats and gloves so at least we will be warmer now and won't freeze to death next week when we visit the Great Wall. What we bought is good quality, but I had hoped for cheaper prices.
After some shopping, we rode the ferry back across the Yangtze river which was a hit with the kids.
Wuhan is actually three different cities, Hankou, Hanyang, and Wuchang, which are located where the Han and Xunshi rivers join the Yangtze. Our hotel is in the Wuchang section, so we have to cross the Yangtze to go to some of the other areas. It was a slow and peaceful ride...much nicer than the bus. We then hopped on a bus at the very start of its route which was great because we were all able to sit down this time.
Tomorrow we will have a paid driver as we tour again which is a break from public transportation, but much more expensive. It's almost embarrassing because instead of a small van, the travel service always bring this huge bus that seats 20-30 people just to pick up our family. I know my family is large by China's standards, but it's not
that big!
As I am typing this, Caleb is sitting here by me and repeating whatever I say. It is soooo dang cute!!! He took a piece of gum and when I said, "That is gum", he repeated it word for word. I said, "say gum" and of course the "say gum" comes right back at me. He has the most precious accent when he speaks English. Last night he ran for the elevator when we got back to the hotel and yelled "C'mon Mama, c'mon Baba!" He also can say "good morning" and "good night" now as well. Just a few more thousand words to go! He seems to read in Chinese very well so we bought him some books in Chinese yesterday at the bookstore. One is a compilation of Disney stories and the other is one he chose on Chinese legends. I am impressed that he enjoys Chinese legends and history...maybe his love for it will rub off on my other kids!
