Three of the girls and I sat in the stands tonight cheering for brother Ty during his floor hockey game. Unfortunately, our cheering him on wasn’t enough, his team was only able to score one time. The opposing team couldn’t seem to miss a shot. Ty’s team should have had an advantage. The opposing team twice had members in the penalty box for high sticking, which made them short a player for several minutes of the game. Big brother Ty seemed to be everywhere blocking shots and sending the puck across the floor back to the forwards.
Ty is one of little sister Ami’s favorite words and one of the first that she learned to say. She can yell it loud and clear and she did a great job cheering her big brother on in the game. Well, except for the times that her mouth was stuffed full of popcorn, that is.
The teams consisted of third and fourth grade boys. Of course, at that age there is a wide variation in size and physical ability. Ty is the smallest boy on his team and probably the youngest. He just turned eight in October, which makes him a young third grader. Like so many of the small players though, he seems to have that extra speed and agility. He’s one of those players that seems to be everywhere at once.

He really wanted to score a goal, but his coach played him in defense most of the game. There was a couple of times though, that he almost scored from that side of the centerline. When other boys are asking for a drink or a rest, he just wants to keep playing. He has been that way since he started playing at the age of four. In the end, he was dripping with sweat when he pulled off his helmet. Then he was ready for a drink.
Dani and I sang his praises on the way home. He didn’t really seem upset about losing; I guess he is just happy to play. In case you were wondering, we didn’t have any van problems tonight. Super Dad filed the connection nice and clean on the solenoid.
