High Chairs

Gracie Sleeping in High Chair

Have you ever noticed many strange and amusing things happen when babies are in their highchairs? If you think about it I’m sure you can think of pretty wild things your sibling has done in his or her highchair when you are not looking. Here are a few of Gracie’s antics.

Gracie loves pudding but because it is a sweet we give it to her every once and a while as a treat. Well, this was one of those times when Gracie could have her pudding. She was so excited and leaped for her high chair. She is big enough to eat by herself now so my mom and I went into the living room so we could relax and talk a little bit. When we went back in to check on Gracie in the kitchen, she had given herself a pudding facial. It was everywhere on her face! Every nook and cranny on her face had pudding. I told my mom that there was even pudding on her eyelids!

Gracie loves oatmeal and paint. What do these two have in common? You will see as I go on. Ever since we brought Gracie home from China she has always loved to eat maple and brown sugar oatmeal. She is the oatmeal queen. She will wake up and go downstairs in the morning and she will point to Mommy or Daddy that she is ready to eat her morning staple of oatmeal.

One particular morning we walked out of the kitchen while Gracie ate her daily ration of oatmeal. When we returned, she was painting our beautiful, meadow green kitchen walls with pale brown, thick and sticky oatmeal. I think she was going for the stucco look but mom vetoed the plan and wiped the wall clean.

Another day the same thing happened but with watercolor paint! I was actually the one who caught Gracie in the act of her marvelous masterpiece. Fortunately, since it was watercolor it washed right off.

On occasion Gracie will take her nap around lunchtime so it is no surprise to find her snoozing in her high chair every now and then. It is so funny to watch her nod off and then quickly wake up and then nod off and then wake up all over again and then finally go out cold.

Another thing we have caught Gracie doing is to use her highchair to climb up on the kitchen counters. When no one was looking she wiggled herself out from underneath her tray and then maneuvered herself up on the counters. Fortunately she was quickly caught in the act and now knows that was a major no, no and she has not tried it since.

Who thought highchairs could be so amusing?
