Brothers Working Together

Sure, your children enjoy playing together, it is fun, and they learn a lot about each other. However, when they work together they learn each other’s strengths and limitations. They learn to respect each other’s abilities and can take pride in their own accomplishments as well as their brother’s accomplishments.

If your children aren’t getting along, maybe they aren’t even speaking to each other, putting them to work on a project may solve the problem. Either a project that requires teamwork and communication to get it done quickly will solve the problem or they will be busy all day.

Sometimes a parent enjoys hearing one of their children bragging about the accomplishments of a sibling. The younger siblings may work harder, wanting to one day equal or exceed the accomplishments of a big brother or sister. This may especially be helpful if your children identify with birth parents who had few accomplishments.

Today, I put Buck and Ty together to clean the lizard cages. This is quite a big job that I usually end up doing by myself. We have two very large cages, one houses five bearded dragons and another houses three mali uromastyx.

Their preferred bedding seems to be play sand. While you can remove old food and droppings on a daily basis, sometimes you have to empty the cage and replace all the sand. When we empty the cages, we also wash all of their shelters and climbing apparatuses. Then the cages need to be reassembled.

The lizards also enjoy a good soaking once and a while because they don’t drink water every day. Because they are desert dwellers, they get their needed moisture from their daily fresh salad.

The boys spent time holding their pets and cleaned the cages in record time. They divided the task on their own without my intervention. This was surprising, but a sign that they are maturing into responsible young men.

Probably. To complete a homestudy your doctor needs to fill out a form stating that you don't have any physical or mental issues that would prevent you from parenting an adopted child. If you are under the care of a psychiatrist, then that doctor would also need to submit a statement. You may also need to agree to disclosure from that doctor to your agency. Good luck. Julia
