Why does sibling bonding time among brothers seem to usually involve wrestling on the furniture, the floor, or the ground. Inevitably, one ends up teary and in need of an ice pack. Something of mine usually gets broken or clothing is ripped and I get to sew it or replace it. One ends up tattling on the other, probably because he didn’t win. Just when you think all is quiet, the boys are at it again.

The next day they are perfectly happy to go ride bikes together, play video games, or go fishing together as if they never fought. They don’t seem to hold a grudge against each other at all and what you see is what you get with them. You never hear them talking to one of their friends or another sibling about how their brother treated them the day before. I have never seen any passive aggressive behavior directed at the culprit or “get even” planning from the boys because of their play.

Of course, the riding bikes will result in a competition to see who can jump theirs the farthest. They’ve gotten pretty good at remembering to wear a helmet and other safety equipment during these competitions. They’ve even been so kind as to photograph each other’s greatest wrecks. Your own pressure tank, spare tubes, and extra wheels may become necessities if your boys enjoy doing this.

I guess all of this competition and play must be preparing them for successful careers and marriages. I just hope their competition does turn to winning girls in a few years.
